I have been reading the blog of a guy who was 16 when he got cancer. He just died in August right before his 18th b-day. He really faced his cancer head on. His blogs were so raw and he really expressed what he was thinking and feeling. Some might think that it would be depressing reading these, but to me they are not. I am learning from them. These things go on the world and happen to ordinary families. When my friend died a couple of years ago and left her 4 children behind it really made an impact on me. She was just a regular mom who was 36 when her life started to crumble and change with just one word "cancer". I also lost my mother in law to this nasty thing that invaded her body. Back to the point that I started with, this guy "Miles" whose blog I was reading said that he wanted to go out with his life telling a great story. You are the only one who can create the story of your life. Are you creating a story that you would be proud of? He said that the one good thing that came out of his cancer is that he was able and forced to make his story better. He didn't waste time like so many of us do. Make sure your life tells a story that you would be proud of.

This post so beautiful and so right on! :-) My family has dealt with cancer (my mother), and although everything has turned out okay, it is a tough road for all involved! What a great post...you made me reflect a lot with it! Thanks!
thanks for the reminder Debbie....i do wish i could look at it with your eyes. it's still very scary and sad for me and i choose to live in a fairy tale; although i know some people wish they could ignore it too.
Great reminder! As you know, we are living thru it every day here. I have a link on my blog to a mother of a 2 and 4 year old who just has breast caner and how she is dealing with it every day. Very empowering. Her web site is WhyMommy. Another story I've been following is a mother who just buried her 4 1/2 year old son who passed away a few weeks ago from brain cancer. Very touching story of a mothers courage and a sick boy.
Ok, off to make my story better!
It's true that I sometimes get wrapped up in insignificant things - sometimes it's hard to focus on what's really important. Thanks for reminding me :)
